Immediately after receiving her Bachelor’s of Science in Psychology from Stony Brook University, Jessica Urraca became a counselor for a community-based organization, reengaging chronically absent high school students. Here she witnessed firsthand the impact Social & Emotional Learning (SEL) and holistic supports have on student academic success. After serving as a counselor for a few years, budget cuts detoured her into teaching and she quickly learned about the power of quality math instruction.
She went on to obtain her Master’s in Secondary Mathematics Education from New York University and also completed an Educational Leadership program at Long Island University’s Brooklyn Campus. For over 20 years she has been teaching math, as well as vetting, curating, and creating math education resources. In the past decade, she has supported over 100 NYC schools and continues to share her math expertise with new & veteran teachers, in addition to school leaders and communities.
Jessica Urraca is a Math Education Specialist, first-generation American, Flatbush Brooklyn native, alumna of the NYC public school system, community advocate, and life-long learner.
